DODSON 4th IN “J.D. BYRIDER 100”; ADVANCES TO 3rd IN POINTS
GREENFIELD, IN (July 30, 2007) – Cameron Dodson shined in his hometown K&N USAC Silver Crown™ Championship Series’ debut at the O’Reilly Raceway Park – Indianapolis for the “J.D. Byrider 100”. Dodson, of nearby Greenfield, IN, was slotted to compete with a different team for the weekend as car owner Carl Edwards was going to wheel the #199 R.E. Technologies C&R Ford. However, Edwards suffered a hand injury earlier in the week and Dodson received word that he would be back in his familiar seat.
“To race at home is always a thrill – especially when tied into the excitement of the Brickyard,” commented Dodson. “I hated to hear that I was going to drive because Carl got hurt but it was also a relief to know that I would have Carl, Chris Santucci and my regular crew onboard with me and we were going into ORP a real contender for the win.”
Dodson’s team is indeed a powerhouse. The Carl Edwards Racing/R.E. Technologies team is leading series owner points while Dodson sits atop Rookie of the Year standings. Cameron qualified a solid third place with NASCAR ace Jason Leffler on the pole for the 100 circuits of the “J.D. Byrider 100”. Six cautions slowed the race but Dodson consistently battled in the top three and was poised for another podium finish but extreme tire wear in the closing laps allowed Tim Barber to edge past the #199 for third.
Dodson’s fourth place finish behind Bobby East, Pablo Donoso and Barber was strong enough to boost him to third in the championship points standings. Going into the next Silver Crown™ event, the “Tony Bettenhousen 100”, at the 1-mi clay oval of the Illinois State Fairgrounds, Dodson is a mere ten points behind leader Wayne Reutimann, Jr.
“We had a great points night at ORP,” added Dodson, who celebrated his 19th birthday on Saturday. “The Carl Edwards/R.E. Technologies team prepared a great car for me and we were really fast but we lost a lot of grip as our tires wore in the final laps and Barber was able to sneak by us. But in the big picture, it was a good day for us. I am extremely fortunate to be a part of a team of this caliber and appreciative that Carl Edwards takes time out of his busy schedule to coach me and spot. With a team as skilled and focused as mine, a win is in the near future for us.”
Dodson and the #199 Carl Edwards/R.E. Technologies/Hoosier Tire/C&R Ford Silver Crown™ team will take to the dirt of the Illinois State Fairground on Saturday, August 18, 2007, for the “Tony Bettenhousen 100”. But Dodson will next pull double duty in the USAC Sprint Series and USAC Midget for Keith Kunz Motorsports at Salem, IN, on Saturday, August 4th.
