DODSON & KUNZ NOTCH TOP-10 IN SPRINT DEBUT AT ORP’S “TOYOTA USAC RACING CLASSIC”
GREENFIELD, IN (June 20, 2007) – The Hoosier State is the breadbasket of American open wheel racing and Saturday night short track showdowns. A potent Indiana duo in eighteen year-old driving phenom Cameron Dodson and the technical powerhouse Keith Kunz Motorsports joined forces for the USAC Sprint portion of the “Toyota USAC Racing Classic” at Indianapolis’ O’Reilly Raceway Park.
Communication and teamwork are fine-tuned over the course of a season as the crew learns the driver’s unique style and can provide the necessary adjustments to propel their 700+ horsepowered machines to the front of the pack. While Dodson and the #67x PMI/LaJoie of Seating/Hoosier Tire/Doty Graphics/Beast Chassis team appeared to be at a disadvantage since it was their first event together, the experience and professionalism of both allowed for an instant connection as Dodson qualified an impressive seventh in the stellar field of USAC Sprint Series regulars and veterans.
Dodson battled within the Top-10 for the entire thirty lap event and earned a seventh place finish for the Columbus, Indiana based team.
“I am extremely thankful to have been offered the opportunity to race at ORP in Indy with the Keith Kunz Motorsports’ team,” commented Dodson. “The level of competition in the USAC Sprint Series is fierce and there is no room for the slightest error or misfire. Considering it was our first race together and I am still learning something valuable with each race, a Top-10 finish was a boost of confidence. I can’t say enough about the quality of the car that the team provided. It handled like a dream and the motor really ran well. Keith Kunz, Pete Willoughby and the crew put a lot of work into the preparation and helping me get acclimated at the track so I hope to have the opportunity to race with them again and bring home a win or a Top-3. It was a great experience for me.”
Cameron Dodson will return to USAC Silver Crown™ competition, where he is currently leading the Rookie of the Year standings, with the Carl Edwards/R.E. Technologies Racing team at Richmond International Raceway on June 30, 2007.
