DODSON SCORES ANOTHER TOP-10 FOR CARL EDWARDS/R.E. TECHNOLOGIES RACING & LOOKS AHEAD TO HOOSIER HUNDRED
GREENFIELD, IN (May 15, 2007) – Cameron Dodson battled the track dubbed “too tough to tame” for the first appearance of the USAC Silver Crown™ Series in fifty-one years and had yet another Top-10 finish for the Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing Ford C&R Chassis No. 199 team.
Three appeared to be Dodson’s magic number as the “USAC Silver Crown™ Showdown at Darlington” was his third appearance in the meticulously prepared No. 199, the team worked diligently and were third in both practice sessions and Cameron tackled the gritty South Carolina oval with speeds fast enough to for a third place qualifying effort. However, when the green flag dropped, the Hoosier teen racing phenom was wrangling a new beast – a severely loose race car.
“Darlington is a track with quite a reputation,” noted Dodson. “It requires an amazing car and a lot of concentration. We were really loose as soon as the green dropped and battled the same conditions for 50 laps. We were in second place in the opening laps but the gritty surface and sharp turns at Darlington are hard enough on tires so I had to go easy on the throttle and race a little more conservatively than others to accommodate for the car sliding around and trying to not abuse our tires any more than necessary.”
Cameron had a little extra help throughout the pre-race activities and a familiar voice on the other end of the radio. Team owner and NASCAR Nextel Cup ace Carl Edwards was present to give a few words of wisdom and pointers on Darlington. “I can’t thank Carl enough for taking time out of his hectic schedule to help me out, he walked the track with me, showed me the line I needed to run and was my spotter for the day. Carl is a great mentor! How lucky am I to have one of the best racers in the nation on the other end of the radio giving me a pat on the back and telling me what I can do to improve?” added Dodson. “He really accelerated my learning curve and no one knows driver’s mistakes and concerns like another driver. The hard work of the entire No. 199 crew and Carl’s help is what allowed us to earn another Top-10 finish.”
Going into the next USAC Silver Crown™ event, the historic “Hoosier Hundred” at the Indianapolis Fairgrounds’ clay oval, Cameron is poised in sixth place in driver’s championship points and is sitting atop the charts for Rookie of the Year honors in spite of an absence from the series’ opener while the Carl Edwards/R.E. Technologies team leads the owner points. Dodson’s first venture in a USAC Silver Crown™ dirt race will take place on Friday, May 25, 2007, at the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds for the “Hoosier Hundred”.
