DODSON PREPARES FOR USAC HAWKEYE DOUBLE DUTY
GREENFIELD, IN (May 3, 2007) - Eighteen year-old Cameron Dodson is set make his second appearance of the 2007 racing season in both the USAC Sprint Series and USAC Silver Crown™ Series this Saturday at Iowa Speedway. The 7/8-mi tri-oval will host the USAC Triple Crown with three exciting divisions – midgets, sprints and Silver Crown™ - on Saturday, May 5th, 2007, and fans will also be treated to a post-race concert by country music star Blake Shelton.
Dodson will first pilot the #50m RAM Engineering Beast Chassis as the 800 horsepower Sprint Cars will thrill the crowd with three-wide racing for twenty-five action packed laps. Dodson is looking forward to the Newton (IA) track and having a chance to put his Dick Myers’ owned machine at the front of the pack. “I’ve been fortunate enough to work with Dick and the RAM Engineering team in the past and they are a super group.”
“We redoubled our efforts in preparation for Iowa and are looking forward to this weekend,” noted team owner Myers. “With Cameron’s experience in high speed racing and communication skills, it should be a good weekend for us.”
Chris Santucci, team manager for Carl Edwards Racing/R.E. Technologies, echoed Myers’ sentiments with his team’s stance on their preparation for the Silver Crown™ portion of events. “We are excited to go back to Iowa Speedway with Cameron after a successful test there and a long break,” added Santucci. “Robert Hubbard has been hard at work and has completely rebuilt the #199 Carl Edwards Racing/R.E. Technologies car and with Cameron being primed with one race in for the day, we are expecting to compete for the win.”
If the past is any predictor, Santucci’s expectations are attainable as the Indiana driver and his team had an impressive debut together at Homestead-Miami Speedway in March with a third place finish behind Tracy Hines and his AJ Foyt Racing teammate.
“I continue to learn each time I am with the Carl Edwards/R.E. Technologies team,” commented Dodson on outlook for the weekend’s 100 lap finale. “The Silver Crown™ cars offer a completely different feeling than the sprints I am used to but I really adapted well and with the team Chris and Carl have in place, it’s a constantly learning curve that you just want to keep soaking up information and track time. Like Chris said, I think we have the team that can definitely be in Victory Lane.”
Dodson was asked if he’s concerned about the rigors and demands of double duty all packed in a busy Saturday afternoon and his youthful side showed with a laugh and simple, “I train for this stuff and you never get tired of this type of opportunity.”
Both the USAC Sprint Car 25-lap feature and Silver Crown™ 100-lap main event will take place following preliminary qualifying and events on Saturday, May 5th, 2007, at Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA.
