DODSON EARNS IMPRESSIVE PODIUM FINISH AT USAC SILVER CROWN™ DEBUT
GREENWOOD, IN (March 26, 2007) – Hoosier hotshoe Cameron Dodson, 18, lived up to the high expectations of his team owners and sponsors for his USAC Silver Crown™ debut this past weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Dodson is no stranger to high expectations as he sets the mark high for himself; however, it is different experience when you have one of NASCAR’s brightest young competitors, Carl Edwards, counting on you.
“I couldn’t have asked for any more with the way the weekend went,” commented a jubilant Dodson. “Firstly, to just have the opportunity to drive for Carl Edwards, Chris Santucci and the entire R.E. Technologies/Ford Racing team; but they also gave me a great car and a lot of confidence going into the race. The type of team that Carl and Chris run is ideal for any driver. It’s the best you can get in terms of being professional and experienced but is very comfortable to come in to because they are relaxed, full of great feedback and keep an open line of communication.”
Dodson made his series’ debut last weekend at the “Homestead-Miami 100” in the #199 C&R Chassis of Carl Edwards/R.E. Technologies and battled early with eventual race winner Tracy Hines. Cameron was the youngest competitor in the field but earned a lot of praise for keeping his #199 machine consistently in the top-5 before bringing home a podium finish behind a pair teams out of open-wheel legend A.J. Foyt’s stable.
“We fell short of a win but I think everyone knows we are a real contender,” Dodson enthusiastically continued. “These cars are really fun to drive and are kind of like riding around in just my seat, LaJoie of Seating by the way, going about 180 mph. Today was definitely an experience I’m grateful for. I still have a lot to learn especially with the draft and talked to Tracy (Hines) about the weird feeling these things have out there compared to NASCAR Craftsman Trucks or other types of open-wheel cars but this team did a great job. The guys on the crew prepared a mean race car and made my job pretty easy out there so I’m definitely looking forward to improving on this ‘career best’ of third.”
Dodson’s #199 Carl Edwards/R.E. Technologies C&R Chassis carried support from Ford Racing, Redline Oil, Hoosier Tire, The Wax Shop and Mechanix Wear. He will be behind the wheel of the Silver Crown™ machine once again on May 5, 2007, as part of the USAC weekend of special events at Iowa Speedway.
